Introduction
Try It On ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Try It On Shopify application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our app, whether you are a merchant installing the app or a customer using the virtual try-on feature on a merchant's store.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Our core design principle is privacy by default — we process data only as needed and store as little as possible.
Information We Collect
From Merchants (App Users)
- Shopify store information (store name, domain, email) provided during app installation via Shopify OAuth
- Product data (product titles, images, IDs) accessed through Shopify's API to enable the try-on feature
- Usage analytics (number of try-ons, conversion events, A/B test results) to power the app dashboard
- Billing information processed through Shopify's billing system — we do not directly handle payment details
From Customers (Storefront Users)
- Photos uploaded for virtual try-on are processed in real-time and never stored on our servers — however, photos are sent to our AI partner (Google Gemini) for processing and may be subject to Google's Privacy Policy
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information from storefront customers
- Anonymous usage data (try-on count, product viewed) is collected for merchant analytics — this data cannot identify individual customers
How We Use Information
- To provide the virtual try-on service and generate AI-powered product visualizations
- To display analytics and A/B testing results to merchants in the app dashboard
- To process billing through Shopify's subscription system
- To improve our service and fix technical issues
- To communicate with merchants about their account and app updates
Photo Processing
Customer photos are the most sensitive data our app handles, and we treat them accordingly:
- Photos are uploaded directly from the customer's device to our server, processed in real-time, and immediately discarded from our systems
- We do not view, review, store, save, cache, or retain customer photos in any form
- We do not use customer photos for training, analysis, or any purpose other than generating the try-on result
- The generated try-on image is delivered to the customer's browser and is not retained on our servers
- No facial recognition, biometric identification, or facial template storage occurs on our end
Third-Party AI Processing
To generate virtual try-on results, customer photos are sent to our AI processing partner (currently Google Gemini). While we do not store or view customer photos ourselves, our AI partners may process and temporarily retain submitted images in accordance with their own data policies.
Specifically:
- Photos are transmitted to Google's Gemini AI API for image generation
- Google may process, temporarily store, or use submitted images as described in Google's Privacy Policy and Gemini API Terms
- We have no control over how our AI partners handle data once it is transmitted to them
- By using the Try It On feature, customers acknowledge that their photo will be processed by a third-party AI service
We select AI partners that maintain strong privacy practices, but we encourage customers to review the privacy policies of our AI processing partners if they have concerns.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal information. We share data only with:
- Google (Gemini AI) — Customer photos are sent for AI processing only. Google's use of this data is governed by their own privacy policy
- Shopify — As required for app functionality and billing
- Law enforcement — Only when legally required by valid legal process
Data Retention
- Customer photos: Not retained — processed in real-time and immediately discarded
- Merchant account data: Retained while the app is installed; deleted within 30 days of uninstallation upon request
- Anonymous analytics data: Retained for up to 24 months to provide historical reporting to merchants
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process personal data under the following legal bases:
